About the Reverie Chorus Line

The Reverie Chorus Line is a vintage jazz troupe based in Rochester, NY. We rehearse at several historic ballrooms in the heart of the South Wedge neighborhood. We offer classes and routines that are open to everyone, regardless of experience, age, gender, or size.

Each of our routines draws inspiration from different periods of jazz dance history - from the Charleston of the 1920s to the chorus lines of the silver screen in the 1940s. In addition to learning new routines, we also learn the historical context of the style, and build our performance confidence and stage presence. Our rehearsals are often filled with laughter, and the friendships that form between our dancers go beyond the studio and stage.

Our Values

Historical Education is Priority

Jazz dance and jazz music are Black American art forms. We are committed to constantly learning and educating our dancers about the history of this dance form we love. To further the support of Black jazz dancers, 10% of all class and routine income is donated to organizations supporting these dancers. In 2024, we donated to the The Next Generation Project. Find out more about this organization here. Black lives matter.

Every Body is Welcome

We believe that the chorus line is for everyone! Historical chorus lines are infamous for their restrictions and prejudices, but every body is welcome to join us - regardless of gender expression, size, or age. Our costumes and routines draw inspiration from the very feminine styling of jazz era dance troupes, but anyone interested in exploring this style is welcome to dance with us!

Dance is for All Levels of Experience

Regardless of your skill level or past experience, the joy of dance is for everyone to enjoy! Our open level classes make vintage jazz accessible for even the most beginner of dancers. All our classes have modifications to moves so that dancers of every ability can join in.

About Jo

Jo Monroe is the stage name of Jasmine Mead (she/her), a Rochester-based dancer and instructor. Jasmine has been dancing for her whole life, and as an adult loves to take advantage of the wide variety of dance styles available in Rochester - including burlesque, belly dance, Irish dance, ballet, pole dance, and Lindy Hop.

Jasmine’s love of vintage jazz started in 2015, when she was introduced to Lindy Hop. Since then, she has performed and competed in vintage jazz in the US and Canada, as well as teaching classes locally. She is a life-long student, and regularly seeks out new classes to further her own dance education.
